About

The Forrestal Zone Competition divides the complex into five metering zones, as shown below.

In each zone, a captain and co-captains will spearhead the competition.

The zone achieving the greatest reduction from its previous monthly use will be the month's winner. If all zones have increases during a month, then there is no winner.

The prize will be the DOE HQ Energy Savings Trophy, located in the glass display case in the Forrestal Main lobby. Each month, a new light bulb is added to the trophy corresponding to the color of the winning zone.

At the end of the year, the zone with the most monthly victories will win the trophy (to be presented to the Zone Captain).

The goal of this competition is to encourage DOE employees at the Forrestal Building to reduce energy use and costs by adopting new habits and embracing sustainability as a core value.
